Alan and the many thousands of other gay men who were convicted as he
Was convicted under homophobic laws were treated terribly
Over the years, millions more lived in fear of conviction
I'm proud that those days are gone
So on behalf of the British government and all those who live freely
Thanks to Alan's work, I'm very proud to say we are sorry

Alan Turing had been arrested on the first day of Elizabeth II's reign
On Christmas Eve 2013, in the 62nd year of her reign
The Queen granted an official pardon

Now know ye that we, in consideration of circumstances humbly
Represented unto us, are graciously pleased to extend our grace
And mercy unto the said Alan Mathison Turing, and to grant him
Our free pardon posthumously in respect of the said convictions

In archaic language, an exception was made for Alan Turing
But in 2017, the government adopted the Turing pardon as a new general
Principle, applicable to tens of thousands of similar past convictions
So the state changed its mind, what was wrong became right
